after looking on here at some of the different projects people had done i found the gas cylinder wood burners where quite popular and having a few empty cylinders i decided id give it ago, ive still got a chute to put on the top yet but ill try and get sum steel from work on monday

no its not you lol, great thing about stick welding, just blows straight thru paint, if it was something abit more important id have spent alot more time on prep work. I had it goin last night and theres now no paint apart from the ring around the bottom ill post up some more pics in a min

I've been thinking about making one of these myself, I've a few 15Kg Butane bottles around and we've a fireplace entrance, in our living room.

I was thinking about welding a tube/pipe to the top so it will help the fumes go up the chimney about a length of a meter or so.
Should would work out as an excellent burner for us during the winter and it's quite self contained. I recycle all our paper into paper-bricks, and just about burn anything I can get my mitts on during the winter so as soon as I buy a welder I'm going to start working on this as my first project at home

Have been thinking to add a small tray opening to the bottom or maybe a grille lifted off the bottom of the gas cylinder so ash and what not can be taken out easier. Also where the opening is at the top, maybe a dome of some kind a few inches below the opening at the top so as the flames cannot rise up into the flu?(pipe being use as a chimney).

Anyway I'd like to hear how you've got along with yours

As i said ive still to finish it yet, im gona put a flue about a metre high out the top and i was thinkin aswell i might put a tray about halfway up the legs to catch anything that falls out, there was another thread with a youtube link with sum really good ones made with 47kg bottles.

The most important thing is to make sure theres no gas left in when you start, i jammed the valve open then screwed it off with an adjustable wrench and a big hammer lol, after that i filled it with water and VERY VERY slowly drilled a small hole at the bottom which i opened out with about 5 drills and then i pumped water round it for about an hour, i did it the bad way so i would advise you to do it properly without drilling holes

I'd like to make one of these for the alotment. The only thing is I need it to be oil barrel size! my last barrel got nicked so I think the next one will be better made and actually stuck down

theres the big 47kg bottles aswell if you can get hold of one, I think my girlfriends mum has one so ill sweet talk her for the next 1 I make

When I built mine, I welded the hinge on before I made the final cut on the door.

wouldnt that mean that you couldnt cut all of the door out if the hinge was in the way? or am i just miss understanding it?

Think 66-V8 means cut the side you are going to hinge, then weld hinge in place then cut rest of door.

yer its just i didnt read it properly i didnt notice it said hinge it before the final cut
