I moved a whole load of stuff around in my workshop the other day as a few things weren't brilliantly laid out & manouvering round was at times a bit of a faff. Seems to flow much nicer now & I've created a decent chunk of space down the far end, easily enough space for a second island bench. Not sure what I'm going to do in that spot yet though, having clear floor space is also handy. Opted to centralize my current bench more & make it into a "metal bending" bench with vises & Goliath bender permenantly fixed. Got another little idea up my sleeve for that bench aswell which I'll post a pic of when it's done. Out of shot is also my small gas forge & behind my steel rack (which isn't against the wall so I can get to it from both sides) is some shelving.

u need some holes in the bench to insert metal dowles to pull bends around

That's certainly an option, but then I'm restricted to pre determined "throat" sizes & unless I threaded the bench whatever prevents the dowel from falling through gets in the way of the flush level. (Or so he thinks after a few beers).

One other benefit of the 40mm SHS is I can slot other tools into it as & when I make 'em.

This cold bent 25mm x 6mm balustrade/handrail infill alteration job was done cold & was my final straw with lacking a "ground zero". Clients over ruled building regs etc. All in writing.

but i noticed the same problem as you with metal rising or lowering whilst bending it

however if this could be turned upside down it would do the same

whats that thing that looks like a tree truck topped with metal plate ?

the dowels could be turned down at the ends to fit into the hole, but u could use bolts or threaded bar and tap the holes wherever you want giving you all the different size options you will ever need
