Would anybody know how to open this connector?

Hello all..

Just a quick question.. My Mercedes Diagnostic hardware has a broken connector and I am struggling to open it up so I can repair the connections..

Is anybody familiar with this connector and know how to expose the pins so I can repair?

If not try pushing from the back and it may pop out the front.

Lock it back into the socket it came from to hold it, then try unscrewing the body.

I suspect its a taper lock casing, the 2 halves are pushed together, they can be fun to get apart...

The military boys will be along with their correct name, they are water proof when fitted correctly, various cherry picker and magic carpets use them as well....

I may have some pins for that plug possibly and the pin extractor tool, but RS Components is the place to start your search, but good luck their site, it is a nightmare to use.

Does the part arrowed red unscrew from the front part?

^^^ looks very much like a Canon plug. Plug it into the socket and lock it with the ring. Then try unscrewing the arrowed bit of the body. Canon style plugs have a screwed joint behind the outer lock ring that's not visible.

Also you should have done the black stuffing gland at the back before you unscrewed it to stop the wires turning round when you undid it.

Some of the wires you can see when you took the stuffing gland out look to have been cut rather than snapped off. I'm guessing not all 19 pins are used?

As others have said, plug it in and unscrew the backshell.

its called a (howevermany pin) panel plug. it will come out the opposite end the wire goes in.
loosen the cable choke off. remove screws push a screwdriver in to push it out.

This is related to Star Mercedes Diag system.

Lots of China systems around and in recent years they have began removing pins from the connector plugs. Selling them as 38 pin etc but with bare minimum wires actually inside.

Then no comms on some modules. I have original Daimler equipment so no issues like this but hear of it all the time. OP can advise further but I suspect that's why cut wires.

Nice that you got original Daimler equipment.. I bought this one for £350 odd including laptop.. I dread to think what yours set you back.. albeit highly desirable.

This is the winner... Maroon - you wonderful thing!!

Plugged in to original and unwound the main body. I can now repair this. I believe I have found the pinout diagram online and will confirm it using the currently connected wires.

I've not had an issue with comms to date.

I had a China system to start with then it lay down. The UK vendor really f'd me around for months not standing over it and leaving me with no system.

I located a specialist in Russia through forums and he was great. He could fix my China Mux but also had original Muxes and explained the differences.

So I got an original Mux from him. C3. Then also C4 too. Anyway sorry for diversion!

Not at all. Interested to hear about this. I just came across my UK supplier by chance somewhere. That was about 3 years ago and this was my first issue.

It's difficult to find anybody that knows anything about these systems. I have found MHHAuto.com but that seems to be more software oriented and also don't really welcome newbies as it seems a fairly closed community.
