Mr Johnhale has just been round for a 4 hour tuition session and with him he bought a brand spanking new rtech 260 ext thingy with the digital panel. I've tried the analog ones before and found them to be useful kit but this thing is soooooooo much more refined. It's not gutless either as the old one was lacking between current set and current delivered. This new digital delivered exactly what you set.
Still very pricey mind at nearly £2k for an imported machine but no question it's a very good imported machine. Huge scope on settings now. Has a bigger ac settings range than my tweco. Rtec have upped there game with this and by a lot more than I anticipated. The hf doesn't buz or crackle like it used to and the striking is as crisp and clean as anything else I've used double the price of it. Highly impressed I am with that machine. Arc stability is very good and results achieved were excellent.
It's waaaaaaaaay too big and heavy mind. That's it's major down fall. I wouldn't want it as a carry about or something to stash away neatly as it's almost as big as some more compact mig sets.
And I personally would not buy one. Not because it's a poor machine far from it but the general price of it is extending into esab caddy 2200i price bracket. While the machine is surprisingly good when compared to the older rtech, it isn't esab caddy good.
That's my review on rtech's new AC/DC. Hope it helps.
By the way .... it's about time rtec sorted out there accessories. Torches, regs, pedals. Total junk when see how much better quality the machine is.
If they started throwing nice stuff in the box with it then the big price could be more justified.
Cheers.
