Hi,
A long time ago I managed to get an old ESAB Compact 125 welder from a company which were packing up. It was already old and much used for site work but worked fine and was a good brand.
I used it to build the chassis for a kit car project but for the last 10 years it's sat in the garage and used probably a couple of time a year. I don't have the requirement to justify replacing it but it is (was) still a useful bit of kit to have.
I now have a small job to do and dragged the welder out but, although it is obviously powered and clicks and whirrs when the trigger is operated, the wire feed motor doesn't run.
I'm no electrician but I have had a look and it doesn't seem to be that anything is seized so I suspect the motor has either failed or there's no supply. Any suggestions how I could fault find it?
At the moment I'm not clear how to remove the motor / gearbox assembly and the cables to it aren't accessible at the motor end with it still in place. There is a terminal block above the motor which is connected to the rotary wire speed control so could I meter it out there.
I fully appreciate it's old and well past it (rather like myself) but I'm reluctant to scrap it.
Many thanks,
John.
