I have a job making a handrail up the steps on the side of a small barn in the cotswolds. I'm using 20mm square for the uprights with a rail on top. The rail will have a simple scroll on the bottom end. Fairly simple. One thing I'm not sure of is how far to sink the uprights into the stone steps. I was thinking 15cm? Also, what sized holes and what to use to drill them? I'm planning to resin the uprights in and cap with lead, as someone suggested.
