Cable ties used to secure cv joint rubber boots ?

First it’s not me that has done this!!
Are cable ties instead of proper clips
allowed to secure cv rubber boots?
This vehicle is been prepared for mot
Could this be a failure point?

I’ve seen it on a few cars but that means nothing.

Main thing is if the boot is secured. Standard plastic cable ties typically don't get tight enough to do a proper job hence the metal banding clips or ball ties.

If you HAVE to use cable ties your better of with the low profile version, much easier to get tighter

Soft supple boots with enough slack are fine with a decent cable tie properly tightened. The proper clips and and the a tool good enough quality for occasional use is so cheap it really is worth doing a proper job.

With those guns you pull the trigger to tighten the tie then twist the gun to cut it. Saves finding out that cable ties can cut skin like a Stanley knife when cut with ordinary diagonal cutters.

Unless it is a fairly supple boot like a stretch boot you might find you snap the plastic cable tie before you get it tight enough. Stretch boots are usually a lot softer and work a lot better with ties IME. However they are often not as durable.
The boot needs to stay in position on the shaft, if you can slide it up and down once you have cable tied it, then it is no good. Otherwise crack on.

Yes, and often when I've got sick of modern metal clamps not actually sealing properly I've cut them off and replaced 'em with cable ties and had no problems.
The racer gets cable ties too.

My feeling is that a cable tie properly used is better than a metal tie badly used, and the latter is not uncommon.

A bag of metal clips isn't that expensive, but for a one off, a big hose clip also works provided that there is enough clearance around the joint.
