I have a old transformer sip ideal welder used it loads a couple of years ago it been in a dry garage. Starting to weld again and having trouble even getting a spark, not sure what its called but the beginning of a weld. the surfaces are clean freshly grinded. the wire is just pushing the torch away.
I renewed the earth clamp but still no joy, Where the earth goes into the welder was loose as it connects to the body of the welder so I took this apart and fixed a new female dinze socket and cleaned up the male end, I have a new shroud and tip. but still not getting a connection when i try and start, sometimes it goes but then stops again. it feels like no earth, intermitantly or something is loose. I m not sure what not to touch inside the welder I know transformers have the ability to cause real damage, anyone and ideals what I could try next cheers
