hi new to welding and just about to buy welder thinking of a gas /no gas welder. have read forum on best hobby welder and clark seem to get best score any more to say befor i go out and spend £180 on one.
I've got a migmate 130 Turbo Dual purpose. Gasless welding gets a lot of stick (no reference to arc welding ) but I'm finding it really good. I've hear a lot about spatter and not being able to see what you're doing etc, but this week I've been using it loads and its smooth as silk. I'm getting bugger all spatter, the welds are really neat. It's been blowing a gale here this week, and the gasless has been really handy.
When I weld in the shop I use gas. I really recommend the Migmate DP if you have a penchant for welding out in the wind. Inside on gas or gasless it's also great. I paid £170ish i think from memory.
thanks for your reply as i am new to this game thought i best get some advise before i buy . i am not gotng to weld thick metal . only 1.5 to 2mm but as i have not got a big work shop i will be working outside most of the time this is why gasless system, but able to use gas when inside so best of both worlds, my local machine mart has a deal on next week can get the en151 vat free so only £160 and seem to be better of the low cost hobby welders from what i have read
I've run a Clarke 155T for about 14 years and it's been a good welder. It's a good compromise between price and quality, and I've not been able to break it .
I like the idea of the EN. It's good to have the flexibility to weld gas and gasless. Gasless is the choice for outside, but for learning to weld, and for neat work the shielding gas has an advantage.
I'd say the 151EN looks like a good choice. Should do more than you need.
thanks for you advise i think the clark is the one to get. so keep a eye on this site for me in the future as you may find me asking a few silly questions on how to and such like, so apologise but if you dont ask you dont learn and it best to ask them that know,
The 151EN is about as good a deal as you will get (not the cheapest but that is NEVER the best deal anyway!) & I have a store full of em! Alas, I just can't compete on price with Machine Mart's 'Vat' free deals.
