I haven't posted on here for a while, because my welder has been working fine. But last week the wire ran out, so I bought a new 5kg roll of 0.6 steel wire, exactly like was previously on it. I put a bit of lube on the wire to stop it tarnishing and fitted it, only to find that the wire kept knotting up around the feed roller. At first I thought the extra weight of the roll was making it spin on so I increased the resistance to turning and played around with the roller tension, but it kept on knotting up every time.
Then I realised that instead of using weld-aid on the wire I had accidently applied some stuff designed to lube bicycle chains.
I tried washing it off with cellulose thinners and changed the liner in the torch, but the wire still won't feed.
Is it likely to be this lube that is causing the problem?
If so, is the new wire a write-off, or should I unwind the top layers until I can get it working again?
Any advice greatly appreciated.
