I've been looking at the welds on some steels that have been put in here, and I'm not sure if they look ok, so thought maybe this would be the place to ask for opinions...

What are the wooden battens doing - are they part of the structure (and, if so, why )
I don't think it's harmful as such as it definitely looks like the lower steel will support the upper one - just seems a bit odd...
(thinking a bit more - are they for screwing OSB or plasterboard to?)
I though it looked like the angle might have been off, leaving a gap at the bottom.Shocking ! , in my opinion those joints in the first two pics didn't need welding they are bolted joints ! , the post is just not a good set up , gap filling and not done very well !
