Ultra High Pressure Water Blasting no grit is another option, we used to use it offshore as it has no spark potential, cleans steel really well, but needs re coating quick with paints suitable for use in damp areas. Could be yard owner wary of DIY as hes been caught out before. Its the sheer scale of a boat hull, anything short of a proper blasting set up is going to be painfully slow and tedious. Would it not be worth erecting a temporary scaffold/sheet over to contain the dust/mess and get a company in to blitz it in a day?
Bob
using a comercial set up you would have to make a sort of plastic tent round it to contain . it flies about 10 meters unrestricted and its a messCan't you just put tarps down, get a traditional blasting service, and clean up afterwards ?
Around here on the roadway bridges, it is normal to tent, and they have a separate 53' semi trailer set-up with large engine, blower, and dust collector, with abrasive wash, clarify, and re-use.using a comercial set up you would have to make a sort of plastic tent round it to contain it flies about 10 meters unrestricted and its a mess

Did you find this list of folk who do such things.

Ive only seen it used once, as above good at first, but then slow clogging issues, he was blasting the poor gelcoat off a yacht with osmosis. Madea nice job, but slow and a healthy mess.I was quite impressed with the sand syphon gadget that goes on the end of a steam cleaner or pressure washer lance.

Got to have really dry abrasives Bob, the one we tried the abrasives were in a big open tub started OK but so much fine water in the air it kept clogging.
We tried covering the tub but then you had the pick up having to be moved in the medium, when working it was OK.
I think with some thought it could have been made better but never Great, dont know how far you could stretch the feed line, also we found if we berried the pick up to deep it would not feed, so a tapered hopper would not work I think.
We farmed the job out in the end, the firm doing it has packed it in due to hassle with dust and run off when wet blasting.
Both the wet machines seem good, not a really fair comparison due to age and the link only appearing to have 1/2 coats.
Biggest issue is time….whats a narrow boat 60 ft long by 8 ft maybe 10 foot wide, up on blocks with restricted access underneath, rather him than me. You’d eat through a lot of sand. Suspect proper blasting or a needle gun would find the thin bits, as would UHP.I used mine with the steam cleaner, kept the kiln dried sand in a clean/dry 25ltr oil drum and the suction hose went through a drilling in the lid. I blasted some axle case's with it, as @addjunkie points out it gets a tad messy. that said its a very cheap way to get stuff blast cleaned. A mate of mine uses one for his oddsnsods, he does them inside a small kiddies paddling pool which contains all the mess.

I was just going to post that!.Dear Santa........
Strange how I have watched this channel for ages and this Forum for far longer and Dustless Blasting occurs on both on almost the same day!

40 minutes. If it is M14 would it work fitted to an angle grinder? We actually brought just the cutter head with C5 cutters and have fitted it onto a variable speed linisher polisher as we find it more agile and better suited on the side of boats.
I can normally strip a full length narrowboat roof in 40mins.

Thanks for the links
They are the same unit as the concrete ones just with different teeth. The thinnest steel I've used it on is 2mmI've used similar for grinding concrete, the motor body looks very similar and is from the same maker.
Mostly I seen them used with diamond discs but I have use scabler bits on the Hilti version.
Wouldn't fancy it on thin steel but it should work well on plate.
