Years ago I acquired this old (we think) Victorian* press from a friend of @dieselsamurai.
Clive had made up a couple of spacers to bring work closer up to the head of the press but I find myself always finding bits of plate and 4x2 etc to stack things and bring them closer.
Recently I've had to press out a wheel bearing in the RR which was, let's say, impossible with this setup. Luckily a neighbour has a 150t more conventional setup and his table bracing was 7" between them so we could just about squeeze the hub between them and support the underside with some old digger track plates to press out the bearing.
I'd like to (back burner) make an adjustable table for my press to make it easier to do jobs like this so I'm after inspiration / ideas for it.
Initial thoughts are some >7" tall I beams with the web against the two 3" solid uprights. One side of the beam used to clamp it against the upright and the other drilled to take pins to move the table up and down. Possibly some ties top and bottom but if they're clamped "accurately" to the uprights then those probably aren't required.
Any other suggestions?
* Clive thought the press was originally a screw press of Victorian era made by Tangye and later converted to hydraulic with a big slug of steel for the ram up top. Regardless the steel appears to be of really really good quality.
