I have a little drummond lathe. I love it, it's simple and easy to use, but was looking for something bigger.
Was looking for a colchester or harrison really, but this pooped up on Facebook. It was very local, cheap enough, the seller would help deliver, and it was on wheels!
It will swing 13" which is all I'll ever need, so I impulse bought it.
It's filthy and has a couple of missing teeth on the back gear. The back gear engagement pin is also jammed.
Apparantly the motor is too quick and it's just on a plug so I'll have to look into that too.
I sort of understand this machine, but only just. I figure the best thing to do is take it apart, clean it, strip the horrible paint and fix what needs fixing. Then I'll also have a good understanding of it.
I like the fact that it's not too complicated, not too big, and not too heavy.
It was also significantly less than a colchester or harrison!
Comes with a 3 jaw and an independent 4 jaw on back plates. Also has a 4 jaw scroll chuck I think, but no back plate.
I need to find out what thread the spindle is so I can find, or maybe even make, a back plate. A faceplate would be nice too.
Also need a chuck for the mt2 tailstock and some mt2 centers.
I could get a mt1 to mt2 adapter, but is that loosing accuracy?
None of my tooling for the drummond will fit so I'll have to look into getting more cutting tools too.
Apart from the filth, and the broken teeth, from my limited experience it seems to not have that much wear.
No idea if it's imperial or metric as the data plate isn't readable.
I believe this is the same as a few other lathes just rebadged?
Will be a bit of a journey, with some learning to do along the way, but will keep me busy for a while.
