It gets airborne and it travels and causes paint defects. I’ve been there before and it might sound trivial and not an issue but have learnt the hard way. What is so wrong with products having silicon, and what form of silicon makes it a no, no? The native element itself? Or silicone wax, or silica (as in sand)? Silicone rubber? Silicone resin? Or silicone sealant (as in bath sealant, type of thing)?
Does anyone know of a decent exterior masonry waterproofing coating that doesn’t contain silicon?
What is so wrong with products having silicon,
But there are many silicon-based compounds, including resins, that won't cause fish eyes and, in any case, this is masonry, not some high end car finish. A compatibility test might be worth doing. If it's water repellency that is what causes the issue, then carbon-based oils and waxes will have similar effects to silicon-based equivalents. It causes fish eyes in fresh paint. Even many weeks after silicon products have been used in the vicinity, it can still cause issues.
Its not idea to waterproof stone walls this can lead to damp issues as the wall should be able to breathIt’s to coat the exterior stone wall of my workshop and I spray paint inside so don’t want silicon anywhere near it. There’s good waterproofing coatings about but they typically don’t say what they contain.
