One other very important thing. Fire!!
I always remove the foam carpets above anywhere I am welding. And loosen / chock up any plastic wire ducts. In my 600 I did this and laid a welding blanket into the footwell to protect the interior from any sparks.
I have compressed air to cool the welds after each burst and blow into the cill. I also regularly ever few minutes check inside the car for smoke. And keep a water hose with spray gun beside me. Also stay with the car for min 30 minutes after any welding.
I know a guy who burned his C class merc when welding it. He got it dragged out of his shed with a tractor before it took the shed too but the car was a total wreck in minutes. Don't be that guy!
