me tooI like that
I'd not pull apart a good one - but have occasionally seen incomplete fly presses on FBMP. Adapting & making use of a good solid body that's otherwise scrap seems OK to meThat's a bit daft imho. The point of a fly press is fast repeatable use to punch things out, that creation will be very slow to use. If you need an hydraulic press build one, don't ruin a nice vintage fly press!
I was thinking just that, exactly how many more tons of pressure can you get with hydraulics, as opposed to a quick thread....its a quick fix if you dont have a press ,,, the thinkings good bet its a fair old bang the day it breaks though .
So long as the frame can stand it. Remember, cast iron is weak in tension.
That is a 50 ton ram ?Looks pretty strong to me, thats a fifty ton ram in there and I would imagine its been maxed out at some point. Not saying you couldn't break its back but it would have to be a serious loading to do it.

They do make V8 engine crankshafts out of cast iron, that will happily spin to 6000 rpm with 500hp through them, so maybe it's not actually that weak fly press.Looks pretty strong to me, thats a fifty ton ram in there and I would imagine its been maxed out at some point.
