Now I have to build a press…..
Crack on, if I can do it anyone can.
Now I have to build a press…..
That looks solidWent to see @MattF yesterday and came back with this wonderful thing, full restored and finished with beeswax and graphite
Thanks very much Matt, a pleasure to meet with you and thanks very much for the tour the gardens and your workshop

How much remaining thread depth is there in the broken side of the hole? Even if you decide to drill a couple of new holes for mounting bolts, I'd still try to include a bolt for the center hole. This is where it’s broken
You could consider applying a thin coat of steel-filled epoxy between the bottom of the vice and the stand (just enough to fill any gaps) and allowing it to cure fully before tightening the bolts.
I’ve got some 3mm copper sheet, I can cut this out to make a large washer, slightly larger than the base of the viceT'was nice to see you again too, @Parm. It's been a while.
A method I've used is making some copper shims out of a piece of copper pipe or suchlike. Just slide them under where needed, before nipping the bolts up.
Get a piece of thick steel just larger than the base of the vice and weld it to it. Add tabs where required for mounting bolts. Could even use a large flange if you can find one.

I think that some soft/annealed copper might work OK, depending on gap size and how deeply the copper would need to indent to distribute the clamping force evenly. I think I'd still use some metal-filled epoxy, which should have adequate compressive strength for the forces that you'll be putting on the vice. You could use both copper sheet and epoxy.I’ve got some 3mm copper sheet, I can cut this out to make a large washer, slightly larger than the base of the vice
I’m just gonna drill holes through the round base and bolt it up, I’m not very good with this welding malarkeyGet a piece of thick steel just larger than the base of the vice and weld it to it. Add tabs where required for mounting bolts. Could even use a large flange if you can find one.
It’s way better than I was expecting, defo a three weetabix job to move it aroundThat looks solid

I did something similar with fiber-reinforced epoxy to flatten the bottom of my cast-iron farrier foot vice so that it would lie flat against the steel foot plate:

Here's the vice, bolted to the steel foot plate. There wasn't a bit of wobble (or any gaps) after flattening the bottom of the vice, so I probably didn't need to use the doubled clamp-force-limiting springs with the mounting bolts, but I'm very much into engineering overkill.

I have been thinking about this….I think you now need to get a better vice to match the quality of the stand
Just plain old steel-filled JB Weld should work OK. LINKI will look into metal epoxy, it’s not something I’ve used previously
Throw some suggestions at me please
