Greetings,
I have one of these twin carbon arc holders and got myself a few rods and a small second-hand buzz box.
I want to experiment with some brazing of metals that cannot be welded.
Unfortunantly none of the tables I have gives a useful clue as to what shade value I would use on my automatic helmet.
I can run the buzz box down to 40A. My father used to have a monster of a welder and what helped there was a resistor he made by winding a few meters of iron wire onto a bakelite bobbin. A fan was cooling the contraption. This worked well, and this option is always available.
Now this was some decades ago, and I guess the "official" rods were well available, but unfortunately the technique has drowned into oblivion.
Schutz in India do have the correct rods, but the shipping is astronomic. They told me that gouging rods "do not work well", but thats what is available and cheap.
So we´ll see how bad is "less than ideal". I will see what happens with 40A and 8mm rods.
Does anybody of the old-timers remember the shade numbers?
Sincerely,
-Helmut
