So my Mig 180 died on me yesterday. Felt like a power cut, but everything else was still alive. Looked at the back and the power switch was still lit so not the fuse. Called R-Tech, who said sadly it's out of warranty but they could fix it. Courier both ways they would charge £30. As I'm not far away I said I'd bring it in, so they said they'd have someone available to fix it at ten this morning.
This machine is five years old and had a fault which they fixed four years ago (they put a new board in among other things!). This morning I walked in with it, explained what happened and the techie said that'll be the main on/off switch. It'll take ten minutes if you want to wait, and I won't charge you. It took a bit longer than ten minutes, because I sloped off to the burger van up the road, but when I got back it was fixed and he'd given the inside a clean out while he was at it. I don't know what I can say except I call that excellent service, and I'll certainly be spending money with them again. I'd heard they weren't as good as they used to be after a couple of people left and over the phone they were quite businesslike so I was expecting a bill, but they're clearly still doing it right, just not announcing it over the phone! My machine hasn't done a great deal by Pro standards, but a lot more than the average hobbyist, and most of it on 5mm plate, with a fair bit of 10mm. Can't really fault it!
