Thanks, do you mean take the cheap transformer apart and just wite it up to the transformer or just use the transformer as it is,About 30V at 150A output should do it. Just buy a cheap 150A transformer-based stick welder, and use the transformer from that.
Thanks for the useful info, will give it a go lolWith an el-cheapo stick welder as the power source, just connect the Rawlplug welder to the stick and earth connections on the mains welder. Or you could fit a couple of heavy duty terminals onto the mains welder, connected internally to its stick and earth leads, and connect the Rawlplug welder to that. Sort of defeats the point, but if you want to be able to demonstrate the Rawlplug welder, that would be one way of doing it. Don't expect great things from the Rawlplug welder. Its capabilities are quite limited. A cheap MIG welder could also be pressed into service. Some have extermal terminals already. Just take the pressure off the wire feed rollers, and maybe tape the trigger "on". The MIG would give DC, whereas a simple buzz box stick welder would give AC.
