Hi,
Just made a bracket for pots to be hung like hanging baskets.
This is the first of a few, so decided to make a thing to form the circles. I have tried to make circles before and never quite got them round. In fact not even close. I know I could buy a bender, but fancied a challenge and how hard can it be.
Used this to make the first 3.
It’s made from some scrap box tubing, nuts and bolts, and some bearings I’ve had for years and knew I would repurpose at some point. Essentially I stick the rebar in and use a big lever to push the central roller down to start the bend, clamp up the vice, then turn the handle to pull it through. Then lever it down a bit more and turn the handle again. Keep this going until I get to the required size. But it has its problems. The rebar sits between the two bearings at each end and I was a bit bothered about it pushing the bearings sideways.
Hence onto Mk2
I got rid of one of the bearings and made washers to hold the bar on the bearing. It seems to work and takes about an hour to make a 9” ring.
I know that people with a proper workshop will be reporting me for crimes against engineering, but no fingers were lost in the manufacturing of this monstrosity.
Hope this may help someone who wants to make circles, but doesn’t have a former, bender or the urge to get a wallet out.
Please don’t ask for drawings as I didn’t do one, or advice as it’s usually dangerous.
