May as well create a mini project thread on this vice, I got it a few days ago and starting in to restore it now. Not a 100% perfect restoration you tube style, but a full strip down and repaint keeping the original parts and light patina.
This is approx 1930s or 40s production. It is earlier production as it has Steel on the side of it. Later no 75s don't have the steel writing and as such are cast iron as far as I am aware so this is the more desirable of them to my mind.
It arrived as above, seized solid but 24 hrs immersed in warm citric acid was enough to free it off along with some persuasion with a large copper mallet.
The centre screw is held with a steel pin which is tight to access but do able:
I punched the pin out through the gap then used pliers to wiggle it on out.
Spring is large and in good condition. There is also a second metal shim inside the vice front:
Note above the pipe clamp is missing and the bolt is bent inside there. I may have to air saw the end off to get that bolt out and re attach the original square head to a new screw.
I did go ahead and give the handle a buff with the wire wheel in my 8 inch bench grinder. It came up great, never been bashed with a lump hammer which is nice
