Don't put yourself down Burdekin, I have restored many cars over the years and a number of them are hand built and all vary slightly from each other and have to be "adjusted" to get panels to fit.

Your metal beating skills are well above average and I would trust you with any hand built car I have restored.

Just a wee update, finished welding the small repair at the front of the inner wing and have started making the repair for the middle section. Happy how the little repair turned out.

Started tacking in the final repair sections tonight for the inner wing.

Finished the repair for now. Planished and ground the welds but didn't push it. Finished with a coat of weld through primer.

Any picture of the underneath of that repair? I always wonder what the reverse side of repairs look like. Are they finished to the same standard as the "seen" side is what I mean.

Only done a light sand on the underside, won't bother getting it as nice as the top.but will get it acceptable.

Pulled the engine and gearbox today, got a cold and feel rubbish so called it a day, home to watch the rugby. Hopefully will feel a bit better tomorrow.

That'll be the toddy tonight, then...... Try one made with dark rum, I've found it more effective in the past than whisky, not to mention I hate wasting a decent malt in a toddy.

Welding flanges, especially ones which have been covered in oil and muck for years is always going to be a bit of a PITA no matter how clean you get it. Still needs tidying up a bit more but can wait until I get better access and give the floor of the workshop a degrease.

Are you planning to paint with epoxy once your done? Something to check on is painting epoxy over weld through (which is acid etch based), I think I saw somewhere that you shouldn't.

Worth checking into, worst case you may need to sand back any weld through you have put on.

Thanks. Yep will be using epoxy as the primer. I'm using gal spray from Screwfix just as a holding coat and will sand back to bare metal to apply the epoxy. Have to decide if I spray the engine bay area before moving on to the OS rear floor to weld in or prime them at the same time.

Thanks. Currently have 40mm lowered springs and Bilstein shocks. I'd like to improve the suspension, steering and ride height even though it was a very good set-up for it's time. I have considered fitting a MX5 suspension but that changes my wheel PCD. I'll discuss with my mate to see what he thinks.
