I picked up a vintage timing light recently, nice solid cast body, chromed, no damage to the leads.
Good condition, well protected by years of oily hands in a garage
It's badged as a Peerless Pulsar, model 150. Nice
It’s a shame it doesn’t work.
Circuit board is getting 12 volts ok,
The trigger switch & wires to/from the board all test ok
I have continuity on the HT lead.
No obvious signs of damage or heat on the board.
What should I check next - and how?
Do the bulbs on these die? Any way to check?
Suggestions I've had so far :
It should make a noise <I need to check>
@minimutly : I think I have a knacked one here somewhere too. Is that a zenon tube on it? From memory they used an inverter and charged a capacitor with a thyristor or similar switch. Should make a high pitched low volume whine.
Check the white capacitor < time for me to try the capacitor tester on my new multimeter, or swap out the capacitor>
@jimbo84 : Is the white thing in the handle a capacitor? That'd be the first port of call for me. Check that switch for continuity when pressed too.
Check the bulb (Xenon?) - < nothing obvious when I looked but I'll recheck now I know what to look for>

I originally posted in the "Today I acquired.." thread but then started a new thread here rather so it's all in one place and is hopefully seen by someone familiar with these things

All suggestions welcomed. Many thanks
