First week done, I haven't seen work like this carried out for 30+ years it's been interesting so far, old school engineeringNice it will make a change for you, and Summer is coming(apparently). I’ve just employed someone a couple of days a week who’s been on structural steel on site work, my work is all mig so it might take a day for him to get used to it again.
looks like the salt mines loading pierView attachment 395372 In the new job there is no mig/tig as everything is done outside on the coast its just not practical, these are some of the machines I'll be using, some old school stuff View attachment 395373

It's just outside Carrickfergus, there's loads of work all over, finding a decent rate of pay is the hard part,Hi... I am from the UK.
Is there plenty of work about in Northern Ireland?
Where is the Jetty? - in relation to Belfast/Carickfurgus/Bangor?
So far yes, good to get out in the air, use muscles I haven't used in 3 years, use the brain again, meet new people, learn new things, I've went self employed for the first time too, what I done in my garage after work will take a back seat for a while, I need an extension on the garage then a small guillotine and folder, then I'll be independent, I do an ap refresher course next week, I may renew some other cards that have went out of date,Enjoy it!!

Used to to them welders pre mig on structural steel. Great machines
A great deal 95% of the time, I may travel over to the mainland again, I'll see how this goes, there's a lot of work going on in kilroot power station,So NI - does not differ too much from the mainland.
I'm seeing much higher rates than that for Coded tig and stick welders in certain parts of the UK, £15-16 is in the upper bracket here for paye very few places offer moreIs that £15 hr paye or self employed? I’ve just taken on someone two days a week at £20hr self employed(has his own business), paye would be £15-16 equivalent for me.
Depends whos paying for digs/travel, if your travelling to truly compare ratesI'm seeing much higher rates than that for Coded tig and stick welders in certain parts of the UK, £15-16 is in the upper bracket here for paye very few places offer more

Historically - sticking and bucket on your head and looking a bright light all day has never payed big money!
When compared with other trade groups - I think this is unfair - but it is how it it is...
