1/4 or 1/2 bsp

Purchasing a wolf dakota compressor this week i understand i need

air hose
filter and regulator
some pipework etc for clean air

the question is do i use 1/4 or 1/2 bsp

so confusing all this

generally bigger is better,you can also get 3/8" as well ...what are you trying to do,copper pipe a workshop,feed an impact wrench,spray gun?

looking to run air tools and a spray gun as hoping to spray my restoration project eventually.

the outlet from teh compressor is 1/4 but i want to run this up a copper pipe with drop leg (what size pipe) and then into a filter regulator http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/cmf2-filter-regulator-lubricator

then plug my air hose into this my questions are do i covert the 1/4 to 1/2 or 3/8 at the compressor and then run 1/2 all the way to the outlet

will this give me teh clean air i am after

dont bother with the lubricator . get a filter regulator .just 3 drops of oil in the air tool before use is suficient ive used mine this way for over 30 yrs and still running why crap your air line up with oil

I would remove the plug in the receiver and pipe in without the 1/4" restriction,wait until you get the compressor ,then go as large as is reasonable 1/2" if thinking Da's or impact wrench....

The DA's really drink air! it emptied my 3hp I/R in about 40 seconds!

I would put a tap on the outlet from compressor to pipework ,if in copper we are talking 15 or22mm ,I would use multiple outlets, a manifold or at least a y piece after the regulator and reduce just before which ever quick disconnect you choose

this is so confusing ? gonna get the compressor and post up a pic of what i am planning i think and get comments - this is just for my garagae so i was thinking just one outlet the rest is just confusing

questions so far do i just need the 1 regulator filter or more ?

Sorry didn't mean to confuse .....I would recommend multiple outlets just so you can have more than airline connected,always useful ....the filter reg looks ok,not sure if there are cheaper about though,...When you get the compressor , remove the drain,from the outlet size we can better tell you what size pipe to run to the reg,pointless running 22mm copper if the outlet is 1/4",or 15mm copper from a 2" outlet......i'm not familiar with your compressor someone else may already know the outlet sizes though,doesn't have to be hard piped ,could use large bore hose to feed the regulator etc or attach the regulator to the receiver and just run larger bore hose to the job ,a lot depends on size of workshop.....

my carport/garage is 6m x 3m approx but as you say until i get the compressor i wont know what i am dealing with - i just want to give myself the best chance of a good paitn job as i this is all new to me

My garage is 6x4,also use my drive,another 15 or more metre's,I use a 1/2" bore hose to feed smaller 1/4" or 8mm hoses through a regulator,on to spray guns,plasma etc,impact wrench requires being attached to the 1/2"hose to work well,doesn't have to be copper or steel pipework to work....I've coupled 2 compressor together to up the delivery though.....most problems are trying to get impact wrench's or da's to run as they are hungry ,so choose your spray gun carefully to compliment your compressor

I have the same compressor, and I used to run a 1/4" hose and it was unreliable. Now i have taken off the plug from the receiver and got 12 meters of 1/2" from the compressor to the regulator, and from the regulator i use about 3 meters of 3/8" to my spray gun. Works very very well.

Is the receiver tapped 1/2" bsp?,did you pipe 1/2" from the receiver in copper or hose,and can you put up a pic for the OP,hopefully it will clear any confusion,caused by my lack of writing skills...........cheers DIY

Ive got hoses connected to it.

From the compressor, I just removed the inspection port plug, and it gave me a 1/2" female thread straight from the tank. Here I have a 1/2" tee, where one end of the tee goes to another compressor's tank and the other end goes to the regulator blabla. Ill take a few pics today to show you what I mean.
