Since many of us would like to have a giant stick electrode why don't use a piece of round stock and cover it with I don't know concrete and then apply the signature 7018-H4R ?

Not far off actually.......a bit high in Sulphur but the other ingredients could be used...cement / silica sand

Yes it would probably work, may not be the greatest but would probably shield the metal.......7018s used to be called Lime Fluorspar which is CaO / CaCO3 and CaF, youre only missing the F.......and of course, the ingredients that help the stabilise the arc.
