2 X 72 Belt grinder

A bit more done on this today.

Altered the fixings to hold it in position.

Made a new tracking wheel because i thought i'd have trouble turning the polyurethane.
Made a new aluminium one and crowned it.
It still wasn't running right so took off the driving wheel and put a crown on that.....loads better and the tracking worked ok.

Made a bit of a table that folds out of the way when it's against the wall.

It seems to remove material pretty quick......just need to watch the sparks coming back round on the belt.

Just need to wire it in a bit more permanently.

It's to replace my clarke grinder/linisher. I use it a lot to sharpen chalk and tungstens.

I think this one might be grinding my fingers down before i know it.

It will be handy to use instead of flap discs and maybe have a bit of a dabble with knives.

how do ou find the clarke one , just for day to day use , often fancied one , but never got round to buying one , the replacement looks great .

Looks great, I have had something similar on my project list for a while now. 2hp motor sounds a beast, mine was going to use a motor out of a tumble dryer.

The clake was ok, i mainly used the wheel for sharpening drills and the belt for tungstens and chalk.
It wasn't really any use for grinding down steel.

And put some sort of locking mechanism to stop it swinging around in use. Nice build though.

I think the video was before the "improved" locking pin was stuck on.

Great build, and a good read, Wyn.
Possibly you'll be the catalyst for me to finally
start on one for myself.
Just have to have my Roundtuit, which has been
mislaid for a while ..

Wired it in and fitted a small work rest.
The larger table was going to be a pain as it needed to be unbolted to get everything back against the wall.
Now i only need to swing it out and switch it on. The bigger table will be ok for using jigs etc.

Sharpened up a tungsten on it and it was fine on this 80 grit belt, i've also ordered some 36 grit for some more serious metal removal.
I also have lots of finer grit belts so should be able to cover most needs.
