It's the lower one for the warning light, I wouldn't worry till you start it and if need be replace the rectifier pack in it

I think that you have the wrong alternator. That T socket is for connection to an external regulator pack. You should have a Lucas A127 or equivalent.

You should just fit an A127 and be done with it in my view!

But I’ve built all the bracketry to fit this one, as it came with the car. Unless an A127 will slip right in there, I’m a couple of days work down the drain. Plus a few trips to the auto supply finding a belt the right length.

Top one has ‘IG’ above it, unless that refers to the whole socket itself? Something has changed/fried as the light did come on to start with, but not any more. I might wait until I fire the motor up, see what happens.

I have a one-wire alternator off my chevy 350 sat doing nothing, but it’s about twice the size of this thing.

No bracketry came with it, and I had no idea what alternator it was. Can’t be hard to make an alternator work, surely.....

I have been told it is a 55 amp Kubota, probably off some small economy vehicle. I see no marking or numbers on it anywhere,

Can’t get the link to work but have a look at Westfield world, wiring a Nippon Denso alternator. Show the vertical connection as the warning light and the other terminal as ignition live, should have read all the replies, see you’ve found a diagram

That does seem likely, but the piece of text I quoted earlier makes it seem to be a regulator connection. Running it up and seeing what comes off the terminals is going to be the answer I think. For testing, you could spin it up with an electric drill.

We wired one up the same as Morrismans Nipon Denso diagram on my sons Land Rover, the trouble was when you turned the ignition off, the engine kept running due to the charge backfeeding on the switched live wire to the ignition circuit. We left that wire off & it seems to work ok, it keeps charging.

Good idea, motor hasn’t been fired up yet, so the electric drill is an easier way.,

It worked, I cracked out the old Black and Decker, spun the alt up, volts are 14+

Surprised how much load it puts on the drill with the exciter wire connected.
Going on hold for a while, been towed to dads house for storage as I’m moving house on Monday. And the new garage is minuscule.

Yes, it tracked straight and true, wheels followed us nicely, only about 1/2 km anyway.

Thats about four miles away, through the town centre..... Should be okay...... maybe do it on a Sunday.
