If it's a new build, just mount an isolator for them to run the meter tails into, shouldn't need certification for that.<snip>
Do bear in mind that prior to connection of the new electrical supply, they will need to see your electrical certification to verify that the new installation/s are compliant.
We’ve 11 poles in various configurations but the payment is a lot less than that. £200-300 if I remember correctly.
Some units I did earlier this year had 3phase supply installed prior to them being finished. If it's a new build, just mount an isolator for them to run the meter tails into, shouldn't need certification for that.
Tried thr cost of just upgrading single phase supply and is only £1000 cheaper. Also trust me won't be digging up my dads path he's had done, that's one of those definetes hahaWhat if you upsize the feed from the house, and buy a phase convertor ?
Yes, you'll need to dig up stuff, such is life.
What is the total cost vs getting a separate feed ?
Ok thanks will look into it more . Coming onto the dno checks yes I've had all this done and they will have yo install a new transformer. As I could be wrong here bit I belive these an issue with it from previous experience as the unit pulls a 3 phase supply then our house and our neighbour pull a single phase off each however our neighbour was having power dips so they moved them overto another. So I presume either a supply issue or transformer issueThree phase electrical supply to a domestic installation is not unheard of.
You may just end up with two accounts, one for your house and the other for the garage/workshop.
The DNO will need to know what load you propose to use so they can check that their network has capacity.
You may have already done those checks through the quotation process.
It really isn’t that complicated but might be a case of finding the right person to speak to at your electricity supplier.
Do bear in mind that prior to connection of the new electrical supply, they will need to see your electrical certification to verify that the new installation/s are compliant.
The cost of installation isn't awful in my eyes anyway, the thing I'm trying to work out is the ongoing cost of standing charge and usage, I looked into generators but they're the same price as the instalation and just bit of a pain and noise.Lad I know has 3ph at a home workshop,
Had it as a separate/new installation
That worked out cheaper as there was some sort of new customer/connection installation discount. Different supplier to his house one.
He already had a hefty 1ph cable running from the house to the workshop so has swapped things around so the house now backfeeds from the workshop supply. He has changed the house supplier to one with no standing charge. Not sure why he didn't cancel the house supply completely?
Also, a neighbour has just had 3ph installed alongside a large (for domestic) solar array.
Apparently he needed to have the 3ph to be able to export the solar.
Reckoned the 3ph installation cost nearas much as the solar.
If that's actually the case then I'm guessing the solar must run a 3ph inverter?
If so, and the costs are comparable, and the inverter has sufficient output, I'd look into the price of solar just for my own use.
I did have 3ph in the last workshop. Not in the current one.
I've got a transwave that let's me run most of the kit although that's all stuff that is readily available in 1ph anyway (chopsaw, bandsaw etc)
I've moved the big mill to a relatives farm but don't really use it much anyway. Big lathe is also there but thats 1ph.
I do miss the 300a mig but I don't miss the jobs that I was doing with it!!
Plasma cutter is the only thing I really miss. Again, not something I used loads but was certainly nice to have available.
I'd weigh up how much you will use it and compare to the installation/running costs.
I did and decided it wasn't worth it.
Did say I'd just buy a 3ph generator the first time I really 'needed' it but never have.
I also have 1ph generators that I regularly higher out so it's not even the cost of the 3ph gen that's stopped me getting one.
From my own experience I’ve never seen a new service connected without certification.
