I sometimes wonder what the manufacturers think an excessive temperature is, I've found some of our conveyor motors running that hot you can't touch them and you can smell the oil in the gearbox cooking, but no sign of an overtemp alarm (yes, they are connected)

F is a common rating with a operating temp op around 150 c before any problems.

I suppose it's fine as an academic exercise and the OP was asking for any help or thoughts. I just offered up my most helpful thought and that was chop 'em off you don't need them.

I'd certainly agree that they probably aren't needed, but having been caught out previously when I was a bit too handy with a pair of snips I'd be more inclined to tuck em away!

Can also work the other way - We tested some direct drive fans rather than our usually belt drive arrangement and we found that as they were blowing air up to around 350 deg C (industrial flotation dryers) the motors would get really hot. As far as I know we never had one fail but they were proper cooking!!

Although the belt drive arrangement was more maintenance because the motor was separate from the fan they always stayed relatively cooler, whereas the direct drive ones were connected on the end of the shaft.

Thermister yes not couple, brain fade.. that looks like letheroid slot liners and due to age I would suggest its probably the older class e insulation, should be marked on name plate.

Many thanks for all the suggestions & help. I've ignored the thin yellow wires for now but am delighted to report that I have it up and running on 220v AC 3 phase via an Invertek inverter (easy set-up) which is a milestone reached. Again, thank you all for your help.

nice, the older models were made really well,hardly any vibration, really good manufacturing quality.
