6013 electrodes

I’m back in the UK next week and need to get some more 3.2 rods whilst I’m over. At the moment I’m using Bohler AWS, but was wondering if the Blau are worth the extra cost - they’re about 3x the price.

I’m not a professional so 5kg will do me for 6 months, with a few 2.5 in the mix, what do you think, especially @Brad93 @Jim Davey @matt1978 @Munkul ? Apologies if I‘ve missed any other arc experts

I've never liked them particularly.

Bohler Fox OHV for me.

Oerlikon Fincord has always been a decent rod.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ THIS. THE best rod I have ever seen or used, you can turn the amps right down and be almost sculptural with them. I won't use anything other than these*


* I am not a real welder but they make me look as if I actually know what I am doing and that works for me!

Bohler Fox sum are smooth as silk if they still exist. As Brad say OHV are good, the primafixe also nice. For the money AWS are a really good electrode though

Edit: I must be the only person who really doesn’t rate fincord very highly!

I wouldn’t rate fincords at all fine for fabrication, can trap slag if you take your eye off the ball with them filling out a pipe v butt. Superior finish, useless at gap bridging, Ine make a good all round rod , but it depends what your doing fincord fine for slapping box section together

Stopped using Fincords as they got too expensive. Now I mainly use the INE Blau rods, really nice to use & well priced.

I use bohler phoenix. Not much more expensive than AWS but I prefer them.

Esab OK46.30 or Nikko Steel.

Stopped using Fincords as they got too expensive. Now I mainly use the INE Blau rods, really nice to use & well priced.

I done a whole box and half of 6013's in the last two days - burnt a pin out of digger arm with an O2 lance - built it up with weld - been line boring it this afternoon. Gotta turn pin up and end plates - finish it Sat morning.

Little Kemppi EVO180 invertor - at 110amps just kept going - rod after rod - fan running all the while - but never cut out.

Wonder if I could make one?

With that amount of welding would it not have been easier to bore it oversize & weld in a top hat bushing?
