800 calorie diet

I have been advised to go on a 800 calorie diet for 8 weeks as I am now off one of my BP meds.
Has anyone tried this, it sounds a little aggressive but I am going to give it a go.
@Onoff I know you have done the fasting one, have you tried this too?
It will be a shock to the system but I have to do something as I am a tad overweight

I have done similar. The problem is not hunger but the fact that sugar and processed food is addictive. Hide all sugary things, bread, snackfood, potato, rice, pasta etc.. for a couple of days and then it becomes easier and the desire for carbs will drop.

Cutting carbs is the easiest way to meet a reduced calorie diet. However dont get fixated on the number. Eating the same or less energy than you use will on average, get you into good shape.

Id recommend a bannana about 12-2pm as first food of the day. I often did just banana apple and orange as the only food before dinner and it worked very well.

Erm...probably. I've never actually calorie counted. I've gotten to the point where I actually now "know" my own body, what works and what doesn't. I just seem to have this self destructive streak to keep eating & drinking what doesn't work!

I say probably as when I was diagnosed with high BP years ago they gave me a diet sheet with 4 columns. Column 1 was something like "never eat this"; processed meats, bacon, cream cakes, butter etc. Column 2 was "try and avoid": red meat was one, Column 3 was "in moderation"; stuff like eggs, fish, chicken. Column 4 was "you can eat as much of this as you want". I think it listed water and porridge oats in whatever combination you liked!

I dropped the weight by going hungry, cutting out bread, beer & eating clean, snacking on stuff like plain, unsalted rice cakes. My calorie count was I know well down.

It wasn't for me. The intermittent fasting is my thing I know works. I don't have to deny myself anything.

I'm quite down at the moment for various reasons so struggling. I'm OK not eating from the time I get up until 12 midday. Thereafter though it's game on, comfort food and when I get home drink to numb the pain of life in general!

800 calories is very hard, try to find find thongs you can eat that are low calorie but tasty, luckily for me it is salad and home made soups with lentils, as a rule now i dont eat anything from a tin, today was lots of mushrooms in a very light coat of spray oil and caramelised onion to add some taste.

You'll rapidly lose weight, if you only eat thongs

I would agree, does it have to be so drastic to start? I would have thought that would add body stress you don't need rather than reducing at a lower % to start then reducing more as you go?

All thongs are tasty depending on the last wearer - not sure about the calories tho..

We're all mechanically minded here so here goes:

I've just eaten dinner. SWMBO really put herself out tonight and dumped a can of Stagg chilli on a plate of plain boiled, white rice.

Before that I had two doorstep slices with double Gloucester & chive mini cheddars in as a sandwich. Let's not forget the Caramel Wafer and bottle of Doom Bar and one cup of tea. In a minute I'm going to toast a couple of hot cross buns. Might finish the homemade mead off as well.

Lunch at 12 was two Co-op sausage rolls and two cinnamon swirls along with a Pret latte then another latte coming home.

Don't think I've missed anything...

I really do not need to eat breakfast tomorrow. I've enough energy in the tank to keep going until 12 and beyond.

The catch is processed food is addictive, pure and simple. The corporate giants design it to be so. It extends to when you get ill from this diet of crap and the drugs you need. Someone somewhere is making money from you being a fat git.

Realising this all is a big first step.

So back to the simple mechanics, "drive" until you run out of gas and your reserve is gone. That's when you start losing the weight. Don't keep topping up.

Just my humble opinion.

Came back from last year’s holiday to the US in November 2022 and tipped the scales at 92.4kg. I’m 1.78m tall.

I‘d been steadily gaining weight over the past 10 years and was normally around 75kg. Our youngest son’s wedding at the end of April was the driver.

I have a portion of porridge oats for breakfast with skimmed milk. For lunch it’s a bowl of soup of any type with a few crackers, followed by an apple and / or grapes. Evening meal is either poached fish or chicken with loads of fresh vegetables. Tea and / coffee unrestricted. Occasionally some ice cream.

Every so often, say once a month, we go out for a really nice dinner with no restrictions.

We have also started cycling , but nothing too serious, about 12 miles or so every week plus occasional walks.

I weigh in weekly (I find it suits my psyche, but my wife can’t hack any small gain or no loss for the week) and last Friday I was 79.2kg, not far from my target of 74kg.

I feel fine, sleep better, don’t get heart burn, but I’m going to have to buy a complete new set of clothes.

As I said, it’s just what works for me and what I’ve been able to stick with.

Highly recommend "spoon fed" by Tim Spector. I think he's brought out a newer book now but not read that.

Changed the way I look at food. Cut out UPF for a start

I weighed in recently at 105.5 kg a 5''8" so its a no brainer to cut down given my recent high blood pressure, so for now its 1200 calories a day
