A surprising cost comparison - ICE / EV

I went for the basic battery and motor, Pure spec so a few extra toys, I also added the heat pump (couldn't not really, could I?) And a folding towbar for the bike rack

Moonstone Grey, and for the first time in my life I didn't tick the sports or sports plus options.......

Same as ours, we got moonstone grey with 52 kWh battery - on paper it’s slower than the car it’s replacing (2.0 tdi Tiguan with a Dsg gearbox) but it feels much faster.

We didn’t get any extras with ours just the basic spec but it doesn’t feel like anything was missing. It’s a first for me having dynamic cruise control, it’s a bit odd following the car in front and not having to touch any pedals to stop!!

We were a bit hesitant to go with the smaller battery but for our (my wife’s really) use it’s really no bother at all. In normal use charging twice a week is more than enough for us, though plugging it in every night is really no chore if required.

The std battery will do my regular longest round trip, but the bigger one will not do my longer journeys so wouldn't of been a benefit

The Golf I am in now has adaptive cruise, In a manual it has limitations but I imagine it's much better in the electric

Wife has been told her car is off the drive once it arrives, work will pay the install cost of a charger and I'm looking at Octopus for cheaper charging

Its based on an Ibex F8, but its going to cost around 50K.....

It looks interesting, but the projected price is £65k+ vat - for a hand-built electric vehicle with a 75kWh pack I am surprised there isn't a extra digit preceding the 65. If they can sell them at £65k and make a profit then they will have no end of customers.

Just a real concern about running low on power and as we know with U.K. roads deadlock traffic and ridiculous diversions are highly likely.
You certainly wouldn’t drive any vehicle low on range especially a ev because you’re not walking to a fuel station with a can!

EV are politically correct hence your anger at any questioning of them but discussion of pros and cons is highly sensible.

If I could afford it I’d have one, a low power high light efficiency vehicle and I’d charge with solar when possible to get the maximum environmental protection

Nah. Suggestions and needing to read all the details, not just the possibly exaggerated bare bones or lack of considerations of more efficient driving style. Questions to illicit a response (but none was coming, as it happened). That alone makes me think the suggestions would likely have been effective - and likely with no more driving time than that spent going nowhere.

road legal I believe as they are looking at private sales, farms, utilities etc.

I guess the 'designer' didn't have access to a set of french curves or a skilled panel beater. I wonder what sized shoes he bought to get the shoe box he drew around. There's Utility and there'UTILITY.

Definitely function over form, fine by me. Easier to make and replace panels. I'm guessing mark 2 may have a few more curves if they get any interest.

Looks more like it's based on a Series Two.

The Munro is basically a Foers Ibex which started life back in the late 80s. Generally Ibexs use Land Rover bits on a custom designed galv chassis/body/rollcage, strength and longevity key selling points along with excellent off road capabilities such as an interesting centre winch system. UK designed/built. I like the design lines! If you are going to do small volume production you work with what you have and if that means using your press brake rather than investing a fortune in dies then so be it. The end users tend to be the type that will be fixing it themselves anyway when the time comes.

Currently 6-7 months, that is expected to drop though, 2 factories in Germany are now making UK models

I had responded a few posts later. I have actually taken on board a few of your suggestions.
I’m 4k miles in now , and find I drive a lot smoother , overtaking earlier , rolling up to junctions. Reducing my speed on Mway to 65 gives me a bit more range ( it’s surprising how many cars you overtake as well).
I can get around 3.3 miles to the KW without feeling I’m deliberately going slow etc.
I still charge earlyish during the journey. If I have 100 miles to go and 120-130 range, I would still top up at that point. I would rather come home with some in the tank than risk getting caught up in traffic etc and not being able to get to a charger, or those chargers not working. Probably over cautious, but I don’t want to be left at the side of the road with no power.
I love the car, I like that I’m not pumping any thing nasty into the atmosphere from the car ( ignoring where the power has come from obviously). I also love driving my diesel van, so much in fact that I have just bought another . Should get me through to when they sort out a van with a decent range ( I’m looking at you long range , long wheelbase buzz) then I will go electric only.
If they get the infrastructure up to anywhere near what Tesla offer in that time then it will be easy. MFG seem to be rolling out a fair few. What worries me is the government are trying to get involved , and we all know what happens when they get their procurement teams on the job

I reckon very few people are ev sceptical and it’s not like characterless four pot diesel cars are any great loss . The problem is cost.
I know a lot of members on here are affluent but for a lot of people by the time a ev will be old enough to be affordable the battery will be a expensive concern and tax breaks will be over anyway
