How do you gain access to the allen key which allows the switch to using the backgear? Its position means I'm considering cutting down a BA2 allen key, can't see any other way of loosening it without resorting to pliers

Problem, I think, solved. My neighbour came for a blether while I was out in the cave and I explained the problem. He went off and came back with a handful of single keys and had just what was needed, it was even a duplicate so he gave me it. I'll be able to cut it down so that it will 'squeeze' into the narrow space and job' jobbed - or it will be.

Have to agree, but oddly there is the odd good programme broadcast - e.g. on BBC4 and some of the ITV channels.

We're limited up here in the number of channels available because our signal [terrestrial anyway] comes from a relay(?) mast so the full range of programmes isn't as comprehensive as those 'daan sarf'. Not sure that's a bad thing, though.............

Not sure if the 10 and 7 are identical but yes the one on mine is a tight fit, it was an allen key cut down job to sort it.... then I lost the damn thing

A cut down allen key is the commonly accepted method of reaching that bolt. No doubt that back in the day Myford would sell you a special tool for the job. I'm not sure what size I used but it was an AF & not a BA size.

As a bonus it's presented by Iain Stewart so SBF can understand what they're saying!

My mate and his wife have been visiting this weekend, first time he's been here since I got the Myford. He's very impressed with it, but noticed the 3-jaw chuck was running off centre with a piece of round bar in it. We miked it and it was 0.022" out........

We adjusted it [a Pratt Burnerd Grip Tru 4" - this one http://rotagriponline.com/index.php...&keyword=vice&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=29] and now it's within 0.002" on a dial which will be good enough for my needs.

Aye, he's a retired college lecturer and used to teach his students on Myfords, so he knows them inside out. He's most impressed with the condition of my one with virtually no play anywhere, other than a very little backlash on the cross-slide.

Very good range of Metric & Imperial threads, I've got the plain, change wheel version, no quick change gearbox.
I can get some quite odd screw pitches just with the change gears. Such as 1.666mm pitch, which I need for my Aciera F3 milling machine & and Simonet DC102 toolmaker lathe.

Oh, I'm not saying what I paid from my Myford, other than I did pay a premium for the long bed.

Oh one thing the Myford can't do is turn M2 HSS... well it can but you'll be there all week

myfords prices are around 400-600 without a motor here

ive got that homemade gearbox posted on site here, on mine should be rather interesting seeing what it can do with the screw cutting once I get there myself

i bought it with the lathe i actually like the idea of it being on the end of the lathe much better idea than changing those gears every time i also like the it can be taken off and put on another lathe instead
