A tale of two Stihl saws...

I had another go at it after looking on YouTube and got it off after a few smacks with the hammer on the end of the crank while holding the flywheel in the other hand.

The second saw is another very different story!
It sounded very rattly when turned over and had no compression so I pulled it apart.....

Scored piston, loose rings in their grooves, sloppy mains and little end bearings and a massive ridge in the cylinder at TDC !

The deposit you can see in the head by the plug hole is not carbon build up but brick dust! The inside of the air filter is full of dust and the gasket missing a lump.
Poor little engine!
I'll probably rebuild this as parts are cheap on Ebay.
£38 for a new crank with con rod, £40 for a new cylinder with piston and rings etc.
I'll lovingly run it on some old Castrol 747 racing two stroke oil I have left, mmmm.

You may as well put both new crankshaft seals in whilst you've got it in bits .

At the moment its the seals keeping the crank in place as the bearings are totally shot!

The running saw was used in anger last night to cut a line along some concrete pavers, it was going well until the blade started sparking away!
Looks like they don't like cutting when all the diamonds have gone!

One new blade from Screwfix and we're off again
The dust suppression kit I bought from Ebay turned out to be ****e with the push fit hose connector just falling off all the time.
I made an improvement by turning an old compressed air fitting down in the lathe so it would take a hose pipe.

And now I have a proper quick connector.
