advice on sandblasting equipment

if u wore out a proper half inch blast hose u must have been doin a hell of a lot of shotblasting. mine lasted a few years and i was doin car wheels and motorbike frames every week and sandblasted a few houses before it wore out . either it wast the proper stuff or it was cheap rubbish

I don't think these cheap Chinese ''ebay special'' pot blasters like I have come with proper blast hose per sey. What it is I don't know, but I'd guess it was just thick wall rubber pipe designed for vacuum. (like brake servo hose)

But I have done a lot with it, like various tractors and a Caterpillar and a roller and plenty of car stuff and a low loader trailer chassis.

proper half inch bore blast hose is 1 inch diameter and the wall thickness is half inch thick. i use a thinner hose on the smaller pots with the 3mm jet but is still a good quality thick ish rubber hose

1/2 inch bore + 1/2 inch wall 1-1/2 ins OD

I think it will have a 1/4 in wall.

I've used heater hose too, got a load free. I'm currently using 3/4 bore heater hose, this fits the Hodge Clemco fittings. It last quite well too because the inner surface area is larger than that of 1/2" bore, so it wears less.

Now that's another good idea, and easy to adapt it to fit the fittings. Air flow in it will be much slower and the sand wont erode it nearly as fast...

I used a short stub of washing machine hose to adapt the 10mm OD of the nozzle to the bore of the pipe, all held in place with a Jubilee clip.

One point to bear in mind is that proper blast hose will conduct static electricity away so it needs to be earthed at the pot. I've seen some quite big sparks and felt the occasional shock whilst blasting.

it all depends on media your using as to how long nozzle lasts, I do it for a living mainly classic porsches and and as mad as it seems aside from the big gun I use the other one I use is a suction fed pipe into bucket for the awkward bits with modified ceramic nozzle ,air ompressor recommend something a little bigger I blew up my piston compressor within a year tank size matters

it all depends on media your using as to how long nozzle lasts, I do it for a living mainly classic porsches and and as mad as it seems aside from the big gun I use the other one I use is a suction fed pipe into bucket for the awkward bits with modified ceramic nozzle ,air ompressor recommend something a little bigger I blew up my piston compressor within a year tank size matters

one compressor i use will run 24 .7 at full whackits of a leyland bus braking system and is 40 years old
