Advice re mower project - crankshaft repair

Thanks for info, I soaked it in a tray of wonder wheels which had the desired result
some scoring left but 400/600W&D with a flat shoelace has got most off
Some dinks on the conrod journal but as they're low spots hoping I'll get away with it

Is the crank still straight?

Good Q it had crossed my mind as something has contacted the bottom of the cylinder bore, but I don't currently have an easy way to accurately check it.

might have a couple of half dead briggs engines here, sure its an ohv motor tho ?

Good bearing shells on it and provided it's turning and not sloppy enough to move/rattle you'll probably get away with it. After all, it's a lawnmower not a ferrari.

If it's not quite as tight as you'd like run a slightly thicker oil. And maybe some foil in the bearing caps...

Was just about to post this old trick! As it's splash lubricated and not highly stressed it should be fine. Does the con rod have bearing shells or run directly in the rod?

I've not seen any industrial/commercial b&s motors fitted to pedestrian mowers.

We have a Rover pedestrian mower fitted with a Briggs Diamond i/c engine which is a pro spec engine! It has a cast iron sleeve & is built for work.

I too worked at a lawnmower service centre & while most of our professional customers used Honda engined mowers there were also ones with rovers & hayters with Briggs engines.
