Thanks for info, I soaked it in a tray of wonder wheels which had the desired result
some scoring left but 400/600W&D with a flat shoelace has got most off
Some dinks on the conrod journal but as they're low spots hoping I'll get away with it

Good Q it had crossed my mind as something has contacted the bottom of the cylinder bore, but I don't currently have an easy way to accurately check it.Is the crank still straight?
Cheers, but yes it's the one of their newer ones as @pdg postedmight have a couple of half dead briggs engines here, sure its an ohv motor tho ?
