We don’t use NPT in the UK, you see some bright Brit invented the “Whitworth“ thread for about 180 years ago, and that then was developed over time When the steam industry really took off to include a Male tapered thread that would seal again a tapered or parallel female with jointing paste, later ptfe tape came along and the rest is history.

BSP is the worldwide standard for plumbing fittings and pipe threads. DIN, JIS and ISO 7 are all identical to BSP.

Good post, but we do see an awful lot of NPT on fittings now - mostly due to nothing being made here, and the kit comes in with NPT connections.

They're all rubbish these days i think. We buy a lot from Crosslings, Wolesley, BSS etc at work, they all seem the same in quality IMO

Npt is actually more common than you think, and espescially in half inch awfully close to BSPT, only the thread angle is different.

And why order a 11/2" tap, wont have been cheap, thats big enough to just wizz in a cut the thread.

And PTFE tape is not allowed in many industries now due to muppets putting too many wraps on and fittings leaving very quickly. Paste/ loctite swak etc is the go to now.

Many people treat it as a seal when technically it's a lubricant to help the threads run tighter. Also to aid disassembly
