As they are cloth belts I split them with a Stanley knife at the glued join and then tear along the belt. Are they easy enough to split? I was thinking that 13mm does not leave much for error, and that i might end up with so much wastage, that it overrides any saving?
if you get both air and electric, please come back and tell us which one you end up using most! : )
do u know what they glue them with ??I appreciate there is an overhead running a compressor but one of the best things about 10mm belt sanders is the places they can get into and an air one is quite a bit smaller than an electric one.
Last lot of belts I bought came from BND abrasives, they use SIA abrasives and make the belts themselves, bought on huge rolls and split/glued.
I think my 10mm belts are 330mm long and depending on grit size/type you can get 100 for £24 +vat even for Zirconia
This is the one i have (from recommendation on this forum) -
They can be had for about £45 inc.
Light, variable speed, and surprisingly tough on metal. Ive used it to grind off old bolts in awkward places and all sorts.
If it broke, id buy it again.
there not branded items there badged and over priced items all made by same company with your name put on I got one for 35 quid same one with a British named disk on 100 quidFunny thing is, I just bought this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Air-Belt...rted-Vehicle-Car-Pneumatic-tools/141845216330
Cheap enough not to worry too much and this particular model looks very similar (if not identical) to branded items. My guess is they all come from the same factory!
I spent as much again on belts from a known good source (Norton): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Norton-Ab...-P120-Grit-Zirconium-10pk-R929-/182941109992?
