after a good search of internet possably nd30 oil ?

looking at the glass the oil was very dirty so ive decided to change it and the only stuff i could get was toolstation iso 32 oil seams very thin to me but thought as a temp cheap oil that i can use for a few days it will clean up the inside and put the good stuff in later basic using as an oil flush but to my supprise the oil inside was very clean just the viewing glass was dirty so removed and put the new iso 32 in

but what oil is going to be the best for me the compresser is not used much only turned on a few times a week in an not cold place i want to protect the unit but the compresser does seam to run better on the iso 32 stuff does not struggle as much

I remembered ISO 30 to be very thin more like a hydrolic oil and SAE 30 to be much higher viscosity more like an engine oil which is confirmed if you look up a SAE v ISO chart.

It's not recommended to use engine oil in a compressor. If it heavily used and runs hot, then you'll gum up the reed valves with carbon from the additives.

I did our huge 3 phase compressor at work recently, erm, 2014, first time it had ever been done. It's probably at least 25 years old now.

I just slung in 15/40 motor oil.

Ten years later, no maintenance later, still running fine.

I drain the water annually if I remember.

Over thinking mate...remember we are geriatrics in sheds, not working in germ free workshops for Nasa.

If our compressor turns 20 - 30 hours at most I'd be suprised.

sod it will get the engine oil listed above if it runs for more than hour a month it takes aprox 1.5 min to get to full if that happens 5 times a week it would be rare so in a year prob wont be 10 to 20 hours

and it might be half dead for all i know any way it dont owe me much so not much to loose

Not bought compressor oil but I've bought a few different oils from Westway Lubricants, no issues but none of my tools do enough work to know if they are anygood though.

What I like about using the multigrade is that in cold weather its thinner meaning its easier for the compressor to start. When I used the sae 30 monograde the pump would struggle to start in cold weather.

is not in a cold place realy and ive bought the sae and put in there this afternoon dont run as smooth at then the lighter oil in there but runs ok

Same here, and the recommended oil for my comp is a 5w40 synth engine oil. Luckily, I have a shelf full of that.
