Air fed mask advice.

I use Sundstrom and you can get them much cheaper than that. They’re used in industry a lot so just keep an eye out on eBay for a deal. Good kit as you can use air fed or filters. I have a few of the half masks as well. Put in a cheeky offer as they may have got it for free anyhow.

Why does it have filters if its air fed.

I've used sundtrom masks for spraying before and just stacked up what filters I needed

This is a very specialist type of respirator where the primary protection is from the compressed air supply. The filters are as a back up in the event of air supply failure. Provides an escape option if working in confined spaces etc etc.

That mask can be used as air fed (positive pressure) or with integral filters (negative pressure). Only positive pressure is allowed for UK use with isocyanates. The fact that other territories may have lower standards doesn't mean that anyone else should lower theirs. My painter mate around the corner did that for a few years and ended up having to retire far too early.

I have done a bit of spraying and usually used pre filter, p3 filter then good spec paint/fume. I use mainly QD enamel, 2pack and coach.
I also use the newer 3m versaflo but the paint filters are £50 a pop

I did get it much cheaper than what they advertise it for luckily but still was a decent chunk of money for me.

My team only exclusively use Sundstrom respirators. In my opinion they are the best around

Thanks for all the input guys. I know there is some contraversy over isocynate and filters. I have no doubt many have been fine using something like a pp3 but I don’t want to personally risk it, as I say I have asthma anyhow from years of soldering with rosin core without proper ventilation.

I have found out I can borrow a third compressor (only a 2hp but combined all three should be sufficient) until I can get a better compressor set up.

With regards to dessicant dryers am I right in thinking they are silica? In which case they should probably not be used in the breathing line?

Did you ever get to confirm if the compressor feeding the mask can be used with an air drier, or if you should use a long series of copper drop legs for example?
