The perishing I suffered was the opposite way, along the length. They were a devil to find until the hose was removed due to it being that stuff with the braided outer sleeve.

I've heard a lot of people saying to throw away the braided stuff for that reason - even if it looks ok, on my Vw camper the fuel tank is higher than the engine so any leaks tend to pour petrol over a nice hot engine and as its in the back the first sign of a fire is no power and smoke/flames in the mirrors!

Not all fuel hose is ok with unleaded fuel, you need to check the specs

As Langy you need to be carefull these days as there's soooo many specs for fuel hose with regards to working pressure and fuel compatability i.e. unleaded doesn't necessarily mean it's happy with todays environmental flavours.

I'm curious, why is fuel hose no good for air? The hose on fleabay is rated at 300psi so pressure isn't the problem. I can see airline not being fuel resistant but I cant see air attacking the rubber

While the evilbay add describes it as having a working pressure of 300psi it also describes it as SAEJ30R6 which is a specification for a low pressure synthetic rubber hose that's not compatible with biofuels or blends with more than 5% ethanol etc. The specs list a min burst pressure of 250psi for sizes upto 3/8 bore and 175psi above that. Max working pressure of 50 and 35psi respectively.

That Beal hose isn't a bad price, just chop it if it's over-long. Bought some cheapo's a while ago trying to save cash as I needed 3, one burst after a year (the 'crack' does fair wake you up). Swapped with another of same batch, popped an hour later. And same again with a third. Best just buy a good one really esp if it's just the one.

Viton hose is the stuff for coping with modern fuels
