Air Nibbler Ahhhhh.

Another day another thing just getting the better of me . Time to ask my interweb friends.

Air Nibbler:

Bought one and when I first used it on my small compressor it ran but slowed right down and then would stall. Problem was the compressor has less than 4cfm and the tool needed 9cfm.

Tried the tool the other day on the old small compressor and all it done was blow air through the top pf the handle before the head. My thoughts, compressor just rubbish.

New 3hp compressor:

Tried the tool and just blowing air out of the top of the handle where the head attaches. I'm not the most technical of people, I have striped one before as I thought it was broken but got a little lost and sent it back, this is the replacement.

I guess it's me being a "tool" but any advice welcome.

Did you put a few drops of light oil down the air inlet before you tried it? It always helps seal round the rotor and once they are spinning they usually keep going. I bought a cheap one from Aldi and it performs well on 90psi from my old SIP compressor. Oil it before you put it away as well but don't drown it, just a few drops.

Try putting a little light machine oil into the air fitting on the tool, or even a touch of release spray, Press the trigger while oiling to let it pass the the valve,reconnect air and try again,maybe tapping tool with piece of wood or nylon hammer, if still no go,after a few attempts you may have to strip it far enough to turn the rotor and free off the stuck vanes, nibbler will have stuck because of the moist air from it's last use, once its running again lubricate little and often,

Sometimes they can get stuck between cycles, allowing the air to vent, without turning the motor, give it a helping hand.

Frequent oiling of air tools, and dry clean air is the key to trouble free use. I always oil before putting them away, that way they are well lubed while sat in the draw

I'm sure I put a touch of oil in the air line when I first used them but could be wrong. Ill try a little maintanance spray first and a drop of oil.

Last ones I had a problem with I did strip them, had like three gears running off one shaft, struggled to put it back together right. Don't fancy another go after last time.

Just had a second go with them.

Maintanance spray and oil, still blowing through what looks like the vent.

Striped the head off, everything free in there, worked the head of the Nibbler and put it back together. Still blowing through the vent. One thing, to take the head off it takes putting it in the vice and using a big pair of pipe pliers to undo it so all the paint gets scratched off.

This is the second Nibbler I've had like this as the first one I sent back. Cost of postage out weighs the cost of them. I know there cheap Am-Tech but they look exactly the same as Clarke so surly there just re'badged. Also despite how cheap they are they should work.

Just a little lost on what to do, could buy a Clarke one from Machine Mart but lost a fair bit of confidence at the moment.

why dont you take it to a garage and ask if they can plug it in there airline to check its working or not with more cfm going throught it but i would of thought a small compressor with a tank would run it for a bit till presure droped
is the regulator on the air lineopen fully to max ?

I can't remember what it was on when you picked it up.

why dont you take it to a garage and ask if they can plug it in there airline to check its working or not with more cfm going throught it but i would of thought a small compressor with a tank would run it for a bit till presure droped

I've just bought a 3hp compressor that has probably around 12-14cfm. Probably as high HP as you can buy for home use, alot of garages only use something as powerful as this. I know its not the compressor.

Its ok Wyn, its turned right up as I was playing. The Tool is duff but I carnt work out why.

Sorry fella but it's likely because it's cheap tat. You don't have to spend much more to get one that will work

Not sure, I took the head off and everything seems free. Well lubed up.

What are the Vanes, I rely don't know what I am doing as I am more used to plugging something in and it working.

Still on a Plus Side I got my nightmare towbar fitted to the car today

Would anyone give a thumbs up to a Clarke one in Machine Mart? I would guess with one of there's I would not be expected to strip it.

when you stripped it down to the 3 gears did u notice if the centre shaft was turning freely?,vanes are attached to that shaft ,,,could happen to any air tool ,especially with water going through hose .....keep trying

nothing personal but i wouldnt entertain much of any clarke airtool .the minimum would be seeley products and prefreably cp -ingersol - or mack tools

I've bought Bergen before, I do like there hand tools such as sockets etc. I've also got alot of Clark Lifetime tools.

I'll have another go with the Nibbler tomorrow, what is the best way to free up the Vaines if it is them?
