They do fail though... usually pinholesyou never ever hear of wagon air brake tanks blowing upand look how old they are .water on inside salt and water on the outside

Steam service is bad for internal pitting. We replaced a steam drum last year full of internal pitting that we'd been monitoring. I've seen plenty of horrific corrosion on pressure equipment, especially on piping under insulation, never seen anything catastrophically fail that was within it's working parameters though.

My friend had a catastrophic tank failure. One end of the tank shot off. He reckons the tank must have once been left upright with water in it, causing a perfect rust ring which later failed.
Anyways, my Sealey had rust inside from the day it arrived new on a pallet.
