Air tool whips

Does anyone use them or do you all fit pcl fittings straight to your tools?

If you do use them, make yourself or buy them in?

All my stuff has them. Makes the tool more usable and reduces problems with the connections. Cost is not much, make up from a reel of hose and a quality hose clip. Only downside is if you have a fitted/moulded case the tool may no longer fit in.

I only use them on nut guns and gasket scraper , going straight on seems to kill off the pcl fittings in short order. Other than that no.

Best mod I've done to my air tools, especially my snap on mg725 air gun. That would snap pcl fittings every month, fitted a 10" (the length I had to hand ) length of pipe and used some ear crimps, no breakages in six months.

Most of our industrial air supplies were 3/4" bore, So for any thing but big windy guns and hydraulic power packs etc, a whip hose was needed for small air drills, die grinders etc,
One of our windy impact guns had a 2" bore hose running from a dedicated diesel compressor, (And one of the lads still managed to break it)
And don't forget your whip check wires.
P.S. We found that it was best to fit a hose tail and whip directly to windy guns, with the extra weight of a quick connector vibrating away the quick connector screwed into the gun would work harden and snapped of very often.

As Gordon says, if Whip check hoses are to be used then you must have the check wires too

most airtool manufacturers recommend whip hoses any tools that were returned with broken inlet fittings were void if they wernt used

Have only seen them on claw fittings. Never on smaller pcl type fittings.

Whip checks come in all sizes, And are a sliding spring loaded fitting at each end, takes seconds to fit and remove. They save you from getting a smack around the head ay 100mph when the connector breaks free

got a smack in the mouth once of a 3/4 hose with a c coupling on the end that flew back and got me

so where do those check wires go I have never seen them either

They fix between the tool and the hose, so that if the coupling parts, you dont get the hose flying about

u can get pcl vertex couplings they wont disconnect if u drag the hose and catch it

One end fits on the tool as close to the handle as possible and the other end fits over the connector and onto the hose, If the airline breaks free its still tethered to the tool and prevented from lashing around.

In a production environment i used to fit "air fuses" to hand operated tools and blow guns.
They will allow air flow to operate the tool but if they sense a huge air flow as happens if a hose is cut or fitting snaps the valve closed to stop flow.

Anywhere that air hoses attach, even hose to hose when needing a longer run,
