I got to a point of what I can make by hand. So I needed to get a big drill. Saw. ECT. But got carried away. Ended up with two Manchester power hacksaw. Both being refurbished now..

I getting the bits of kit to put to work as I was getting restricted with what I could do.

Keep an eye out for a fobco 10/8, they have 3mt bits and a backgear, slow speed is 51rpm I think

Yes, but for them it's the preservation of the 'as is' which is important'. If you've got a spare hour the 28days site is well worth a browse.

A spare hour, its easy to say but i have lost complete afternoons in the past looking at the site, you need to delve back to the older stuff as the sites they find are getting harder to find every day.
The old Wadkin factory is worth finding and some of the old Victorian sewers the vaulted brick work is amazing.

Aye, how did we manage our time pre-internet? [more usefully, I suspect....] I've done the same as you, think "I'll just research/check/investigate such & such" and aaages later, having followed various links discover that's it's tea/bed/lunch time......

Google maps is the killer for me. Finding a physical address and then thinking 'oooh, those trees look like there used to be a railway there' and off I go, chasing former railways across the countryside, looking up the abandoned stations on www.disused-stations.org.uk !
