Alarm system for my shed

Having recently completed the erection of my new 8ft x 12ft shed, I was pondering over an alarm system for it. A system I thought would be great is for an alarm that would phone me if it is set off. As my electronics knowledge is very limited, I did ponder over constructing a mechanical device that would press a button on a predialled mobile phone if the alarm was set off.

Before attempting this, I thought to scan the web for any electronic devices that would do the job. I found systems ranging from £250 onwards

I did however come across this http://www.anthony-dacko.net/Cell-phone-system.htm which is so bloody simple Im almost embarrased not to have thought of it. This is now my prefered method for what I want to achieve.

I thought that it may be of interest to some of you folks out there. Let me know how you get on with it

yeah that is a simple way but i would go a little further and add a timer so that it calls 2 numbers just to be sure you or your family get the call

i bought an autodialer for my house and garage for 70 quid it phones 4 numbers up, if sumone doesnt answer. it redials another till someone does

Even further...set it up on loudspeaker so when you answer the call you can sh*t them up by screaming "get the f**k out my shed!"

My alarm has a dedicated "999" volt free output, which means I wouldn't need the relay. Another mod would be to put a small PSU in the box to power the phone direct and lose the battery.

You probably need to make a call from that phone once every few weeks, otherwise the number may be de-activated.

Thats is very true, but no real problem to keep on top of.

my alarm at work has that out put to a dialer it can be either 0 volts or 12
i think it is illegal to program your alarm to dial 999

i think it is illegal to program your alarm to dial 999

Just to clarify, I meant an output that operates during an alarm condition, you can do what you like with it. I think it is for an auto dialler on monitored systems, they just call it a 999 output.

if you have a house alarm and a spare Zoze you could just put a PIR in the workshop, say if its in the garden,
I have a dedicated alarm on mine and its on all the time -unless i`m in the workshop!! it hasnt an auto dialer on it, but its bloody loud. and going to attract a lot of attention

i have a dedicated alarm on my garage dont think i would want it connecting to the house if my house alam goes at least i know to expect some one in the house if the garage alarm goes i know instantly to run out side to try and catch the scum

No problem Mark. I would love to know how you get on with it.

I shall probably get myself an alarm at the weekend. Once I know the voltage (I expect 9v) , I can then source the correct relay and set the systm up myself.

most alarm systems are 12 volt and have a 12 volt sealed lead acid battery as backup so you will need a 12 volt relay.
dont go for the cheap alarms that take a 9 volt and 2, 1.5 volt batterys as back up you never know when they are dead

I have a " Response " TM . system that does zones in house garage and office using reed switches . pressure mat and pirs and dials the mobile as well with a simple prerecorded mesage

Im just looking for a cheap, simple method for my shed at moment. May think about extending the security to the house in the future though.
