I have found out why the quill is erratic in the Aldi jobbies.
started to dismantle the head with view to replacing the bearings for SKF(three in all) but there's nothing wrong with the bearings,it would seem its the pully shaft and quill drive shaft thats at fault.
At the quill pully end the shaft is square and the pullys sleeve is not a tolerance fit and so theres play in that there sleeve,quite a bit actually.
Gonna try and pack the difference with some beer can tin as thats pretty thin.
